Our recent ViaSyst webinar, led by Dr. Didier Blanc (member of ISO TC 176 SC2), provided an in-depth look at the ongoing ISO 9001 revision, a major update that will shape how quality management systems evolve over the next decade.
Participants learned that the revision, now at the DIS (Draft International Standard) stage, represents an evolution rather than a revolution of ISO 9001:2015. The new version aims to maintain the same structure but sharpen the focus on:
- Quality culture and ethics – now explicit leadership responsibilities.
- Risk vs. opportunity management – treated as distinct, complementary processes.
- Strategic alignment – tighter integration between the QMS and organizational goals.
- Climate change considerations – organizations must assess its relevance to their quality objectives.
The revised standard (ISO 9001:2026) is expected to be finalized by November 2026, with a three-year transition period until November 2029.
ViaSyst is already preparing tools and updates to help certification bodies transition smoothly — including new checklists, audit templates, and system modules to fully support ISO 9001:2026 implementation.
