ISO 9001 Revision Moves to FDIS Stage: What It Means
The revision of ISO 9001 will officially enter the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) stage, the last formal step before publication, by the 15th of May. This milestone confirms that the updated version of the world’s leading quality management standard is moving closer to release.
What is the FDIS stage?
FDIS is typically the final approval phase in the ISO standardisation process. At this stage, the technical content is settled, and only limited editorial changes are usually expected before publication.
Dr Didier Blanc, ViaSyst Director, is part of the international experts committee in charge of the revision.
Based on the insider information he receives, ViaSyst will organise in the coming weeks a webinar dedicated to highlight the latest developments and changes. Do not miss to register!
What changes can organizations expect?
The revision does not represent a complete overhaul of the standard. Instead, it appears focused on refining and modernizing requirements to reflect current business realities.
Themes widely associated with the revision process include:
- Better alignment with today’s business environment
- Consideration of digital transformation and evolving ways of working
- Stronger focus on resilience and risk-based thinking
- Updated expectations from stakeholders and interested parties
What should certified organisations do now?
While the final text has not yet been published, this is a good time to:
- Monitor official updates from certification bodies and national standards bodies
- Review how your Quality Management System addresses change, risk, and performance
- Begin internal awareness planning for the future transition
Looking ahead
Publication of the revised standard is expected after the FDIS approval process is completed. More detailed transition timelines are likely to follow once the final version is released.
We will continue to monitor developments and share updates as they become available.
